Local Litter-Pickers tidy up The Brook

Huge, huge thanks to the 20+ people who joined Keresley Parish Council today on our first Monthly Litter Pick for 2023.

It was a great turnout, with the weather holding out for a gorgeously crisp winter’s afternoon and there was an impressive collection of rubbish picked. A few photos below 🚮

We had local charity Lions Group join, alongside the Deputy Mayor, the Ward Councillors, a young student doing their Duke of Edinburgh activities, well-known local residents and an inspirational young litter picker motivated to litter pick after he saw a plastic bag flying in the wind at school.

It was fantastic to see so many local residents respond to our call and we hope it encourages many more to also get involved.

If you have any suggestions on where the Monthly Group should target next then do reach out to us by contacting our clerk. Just check out the Contact Us page for how to get in touch!

Spontaneous Litter Pick

A spontaneous litter pick today resulted in the collection of exactly 300 cans, glass and plastic bottles. This was just around the entrance of the unmade footpath that joins Rookery Lane with Watery Lane.

The footpath has been overgrown for some time, but as part of the wider Keresley Jubilee Wood rejuvenation project, the plan is to bring it back into use to improve connectivity and reduce antisocial behaviour.

There is still a lot more to do, but the progress today made a big difference to the appearance of the area.

Check out our upcoming Keresley Jubilee Wood Action Day and Monthly Litter Pick Events if you’d like to get involved!
